A Day in Girona
Yesterday, we had a day full of enriching experiences. We started the day at the Girona City Hall, where we were warmly welcomed and had the opportunity to learn how the city’s administration works. They explained in detail the various departments and their role in the development and management of the city. It was very interesting to see how, through their work, Girona maintains its historical essence while adapting to modern times.
After this institutional visit, we went to a local restaurant where we enjoyed a traditional Catalan meal. Among the dishes, we particularly loved the crème catalana, which was absolutely delicious. Every bite allowed us to immerse ourselves in the authentic flavors of the region, a true representation of Catalan cuisine.
With our stomachs full, we returned to the City Hall, where we met Elizabet, a local guide who took us on a two-hour tour of the city. During the tour, she shared fascinating information about the history of Girona and showed us some of the city’s most emblematic sites. We started in the Barri Vell, Girona’s old town, a place full of history with narrow streets that transported us to another time. Then, we headed to the medieval walls, where we enjoyed stunning panoramic views of Girona and its surroundings.
The visit concluded at the Basilica of Sant Felix, a building that impresses with both its architecture and its historical significance. In addition, Elizabet explained the legend of the “Cull de la Lleona,” a monument of great importance in local tradition. She shared the story behind this emblematic place, helping us better understand the connection between Girona’s inhabitants and their cultural heritage.
In summary, it was a day that allowed us to delve deeper into Girona’s history and culture, discovering corners and details that make this city so unique and special.
